LAPTOP HINGE REPAIR

The plastic is weak. Even normal use can cause it to fail. Once it does its best you act quickly to have it repaired. Any delay can cause more damage.

When hinges are attached properly they open and close with ease. Leverage of the lid makes movement seem smooth and easy. However, when they detach from the lid, without the leverage, the hinge is difficult to move.

If yours breaks off the lid while the lid is open its best if you don't try to close the lid around the open or half open hinge. You could cause more damage. Use care, with one hinge broken, the good hinge is now under an added stress to perform normally without its mate to share in the load of opening and closing.

To repair broken hinges  we fabricate new plastic pieces whenever possible and use high end  epoxy to reattach the hinge to the lid. This repair is typically a same day repair when your machine is checked in before 3 pm.

If you own a touch screen computer please be aware, the process of preparing the surfaces and  placing the hinge back where it belongs can cause additional damages. Chances are, when the hinge first separated from the lid, the glass more than likely was fractured. Though the fracture is probably unseen it is nonetheless still there.

The screen pictured below is an example. See the crack spidering up from the edge?

On machines with touch screens, hinges are located just under the edge of the screen.

Whenever possible we will separate the plastic case from the monitor and reattach the hinge and then reassemble the unit. However, this isn't always possible as some lids are a fused singled assembly and no matter how carefully we proceed, there is always a chance that a previously unseen fracture will spider up the touch screen.

That said please realize that we cannot be held responsible should additional damages occur. Please accept that we didn't cause this hinge to fail to begin with and any subsequent damages that result from our attempt to repair this on your out of warranty machine, is not our fault and we assume no liability.

This is moot point when it comes to machines that are not touch screen. Your repair will not reveal or bring to the surface additional damages.
